Recent projects
SAUNDERS & WARD has the capacity to undertake projects of any size, and degree of complexity, anywhere in Australia. A few recent projects include:
ABT Railway project
- Restoration of three original steam ABT locomotives including design and manufacture of new boilers, new water tanks, restoration of main frame, rack pinion drive, wheels and axles. Full testing and commissioning prior to handover.
- Refurbishment of two diesel Drewry locomotives, including engine overhaul, and design and manufacture of new rack pinion drive system. Full testing and commissioning prior to handover.
- Manufacture of twelve carriage under-frames, refurbishment of carriage bogies and supply of 300 tonnes of steel rack sections.
Antarctic equipment
Over the last 18 years Saunders & Ward has undertaken a range of work for the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). This includes the manufacture of 8,000 and 10,000 litre containerised fuel tanks, containers, structural steelwork, satellite tracking towers, wind tower cool porch steelwork, as well as the recent manufacture of 7 off 20 tonne capacity traverse sleds, a 50 tonne four wheel compaction roller, a 50 tonne three wheel compaction roller, an 80 tonne proof roller and a mess van sled.
Iron ore belly dumper trailers
Manufacture and commissioning of 18 iron ore belly dumper trailers used to carry iron ore from inland West Australia, to the Geraldton Port.
Laminex Gympie Project
Supply, fabrication and surface treatment of structural steelwork, storage tanks, platforms, handrails and ladders for the Laminex Plant upgrade at Gympie, Queensland.
Ride Control T-Foils
Manufacture of 4 square metre T-Foils for a ship built in the Philippines. These T-Foils have a hydraulically operated trailing edge which assists the vessel’s ride stability.
Tunnel boring equipment
Refurbishment of a 6 metre diameter tunnel borer, including the manufacture of a new cutter head and a back-up conveyor system.
Manufacture of raise borers, segment erectors, California switches, membrane carriers and a blast hole cleaner.
MONA (Museum of Old and New Art)
Supply, fabrication, surface treatment and installation of unique pedestrian walkways, bridges and stairs for the Museum of Old and New Art, Moorilla Estate, Tasmania.
